Game Guide: Gonzo's Quest Slot

About Gonzo’s Quest

Gonzo’s Quest is a legendary online slot developed by NetEnt, transporting players deep into the heart of the Central American jungle in search of hidden Mayan treasure. This adventure-packed slot centers on Gonzo, a quirky Spanish conquistador inspired by the real-life explorer Gonzalo Pizarro. The 5-reel, 3-row slot with 20 fixed paylines boasts innovative gameplay, particularly its signature Avalanche™ feature where symbols fall instead of spin. The setting immerses players in a lost civilization, complete with stone-carved symbols, jungle backdrops, and rhythmic tribal music. With increasing multipliers and the chance to unlock free falls, the game is as rewarding as it is entertaining. Gonzo’s Quest remains one of the most iconic casino titles in NetEnt’s library, offering a balance of gameplay excitement and visual immersion.

How to Play Gonzo’s Quest

Getting started with Gonzo’s Quest is simple. First, choose your coin value and bet level, adjusting the total stake to suit your budget. There are five bet levels, and you can wager from as little as €0.20 to €50 per spin. Once you’re set, click the spin button and watch the Avalanche reels begin their cascading magic. Wins are achieved by landing three or more matching symbols from left to right on one of the 20 paylines. When a winning combo is made, the winning symbols explode, making way for new ones to fall into place – and each consecutive win increases your multiplier, which can climb to as high as 5x in the base game.

Gonzo’s Quest Symbols and Special Features

The reels of Gonzo’s Quest are carved stone blocks etched with ancient Mayan symbols. There are seven regular symbols, each with a unique design and payout value. The highest paying symbol is the blue face mask, while others include snakes, birds, and fish carvings. Special symbols add excitement and potential for big wins:

The standout Avalanche™ feature causes symbols to tumble down rather than spin, offering multipliers of 1x, 2x, 3x, and 5x for consecutive wins.

Gonzo’s Quest Bonus Rounds

Gonzo’s Quest doesn't have traditional bonus games, but the Avalanche multipliers and Free Falls feature more than make up for it. With each Avalanche in a single spin, your multiplier increases, stacking up greater rewards if you hit successive wins. Combine this with wilds and Free Fall triggers, and the potential for big payouts increases dramatically.

Gonzo’s Quest Free Spins

Instead of classic free spins, Gonzo’s Quest offers Free Falls, which are activated by landing three Free Fall symbols on a payline starting from the leftmost reel. This triggers 10 Free Falls, during which all Avalanche multipliers are boosted:

Additional Free Falls can be retriggered within the feature, making this the most lucrative part of the game.

Gonzo’s Quest Theme and Graphics

Gonzo’s Quest remains visually stunning even years after its release. The slot's 3D animations, cinematic intro, and interactive character design were groundbreaking at the time and still hold up today. Gonzo himself adds charm and comic relief, reacting to wins with animated excitement. The Mayan temple setting, combined with ambient sound effects and jungle drumming, creates a compelling atmosphere that enhances the gameplay experience.
