Take a walk down the Yellow Brick Road with all of your favourite characters from the Wizard of Oz when you play the Wizard of Oz slot game. Everyone is familiar with Dorothy, Tin Man, Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion from L. Frank Baum’s novel written in 1900 and the films that followed, the most famous of which featured Judy Garland and was released in 1939. The story revolves around the protagonist Dorothy, a girl from Kansas who is blown away to the fantasy Land of Oz by a tornado. Her adventures with the other characters and the subsequent encounters with the Wizard of Oz are synonymous with literature and this online slot game from WMS Gaming pays homage to the original story.
About Wizard of Oz
The Wizard of Oz is a five-reeled slot game and features thirty different paylines. The interface is reminiscent of the film, featuring the famous rainbow in the backdrop of the reels. The symbols on the reels are all relevant to the story of the Wizard of Oz and they include Dorothy’s house, the tornado, a hot air balloon, her dog Toto, the Wicked Witch, the ruby slippers, her three friends and Dorothy herself.
How to play
Located at the bottom of the screen is the “Paytable” button. Underneath that, you can find two options, “C” and “QB”. By clicking on “C”, you select the classic panel where you can choose the number of lines available to play on and the wagering limits per line. Alternatively, you can click on “QB”, which allows you to choose the QuickBet option, enabling you to include all lines on the reels and select a total bet. When using the QuickBet option, the number of lines in play will always be the maximum number available on the reels. The bet played per line increases a set amount on each button from the leftmost QuickBet button up to the rightmost QuickBet buttons. Like the vast number of slot games available online, there is also an “Autoplay” button which allows the computer to automatically spin the reels or you can manually start the game. This is possible by clicking on the “Spin” button.
Wild Symbols
The wild symbol can replace all symbols, with the exception of FEATURE AND JACKPOT. For example, if you land a line of Dorothy, Dorothy, wild, Dorothy, Dorothy, the wild will count as a Dorothy symbol and you will win a 5-of-a-kind payout.
Bonus Features
Glinda the Good Witch FeatureDuring normal gameplay, Glinda will appear at random and use her magic to turn between one and five of the reels into expanding wilds. The reels are then re-calculated and re-evaluated for any winning combinations. This is not a major bonus and happens at random, meaning that there is no trigger mechanism for this bonus.
Oz Pick FeatureYou must land the Emerald City symbols on reels one, three and five to trigger this bonus feature. There are a number of rewards on offer for this bonus, including a cash prize or further bonus features, like Road to Emerald City or Winged Monkey Feature.
Winged Monkey FeatureThis bonus allows you to win eight free spins. On top of that, if you land a Winged Monkey Wild Feature symbol on the third reel, you can win even more! You’ll be asked to click anywhere on screen and once you’ve done that, a number of winged monkeys will fly onto the screen, turning multiple symbols wild. This will give you even more winning combinations and help you win more money.
Rose to Emerald City FeatureYou are presented with a selection of emeralds and from that, you choose one. Depending on the emerald chosen, you either win a trip to “character land”, a cash sum or a visit to Emerald City. If there’s one part of the game that most closely resembles the Wizard of Oz film, then it is Character Land. You’ll arrive in a scenario and location most associated with a particular character, for example, Scarecrow-Cornfield, Tin Man-Apple Orchard, Cowardly Lion-Dark Forest and Wicked Witch-Castle. To unveil the character, you select a golden charm and if you fail to do that, then you return to the Yellow Brick Road and start again.
